Unit 3 Dates/Times: 12:00-1:30 pm on Nov. 11 (Weds.), Nov. 18 (Weds.), Nov. 24 (Tues.), Dec. 9 (Weds.) Please note the change of class day during Thanksgiving week and the one week break between lecture 3 and lecture 4. (Class lecture 3 held on TUESDAY, Nov. 24 and NOT Weds., Nov. 25, and class lecture 4 held on Weds., Dec. 9.)
Unit 3 Description:
Factors such as culture, place in time, ethnicity, religion, etc. intrinsically shape what we perceive and the manner in which we perceive it. In this unit, we’ll examine how artists from several time periods and cultures experimented with different points of view, literal and metaphorical, to craft new worlds for their viewers.
Key cultures/periods (subject to change): Comparing spatial perspective in Western Renaissance versus Chinese painting, Baroque painting and sculpture, Romanticism, Impressionism.
Class requirements: reliable internet connection; ability to log onto Zoom meetings (the lecture) as well as listen to and watch live lecture sessions
Strongly recommended: computer webcam and microphone to optimize class participation
